Popular poetry and spoken word night Chemistry presents this special event for Leeds Lit Fest. Host Joe Williams welcomes Dominic Berry and Kayleigh Campbell as headliners, alongside the “Box of Mystery” open mic.
Chemistry only began in summer 2022, but has already established itself as one of Leeds’ most exciting and popular poetry and spoken word nights, continuing a long tradition of poetry events at the Chemic Tavern in Woodhouse.
Host Joe Williams welcomes multi-award-winning performance poet Dominic Berry and rising local star Kayleigh Campbell as headliners,. The “Box of Mystery” open mic section gives a range of writers, from first-timers to established published poets, their three minutes on the stage.
Dominic Berry is an award-winning poet. He was 2017 Glastonbury Festival Poet in Residence, winner of the 2020 and 2017 Saboteur Best Spoken Word Artist award, and has toured his verse across USA, Canada, India, New Zealand, Australia, South America and Europe. His other awards include winning New York’s Nuyorican Poetry Cafe Slam, UK Superheroes of Slam and, as of 2022, ten Arts Council England Grants for the Arts awards.
Kayleigh Campbell has a PhD in Creative Writing and is a member of the Editorial Board for Grist. In 2019 Maytree Press published her debut pamphlet ‘Keepsake’ and in 2022 Verve Poetry Press published her debut collection ‘Matryoshka’. Her work has appeared in Butcher’s Dog, Rialto and Stand. She was shortlisted for the Bridport Prize in 2021.
